Frequently asked questions

What areas can be treated with Botox?

Many different areas of the face can be treated with Botox. But we at Hylagen will only offer the tried and tested options such as the frown line (the vertical lines between the eyebrows), the worry lines (the horizontal lines across the forehead) and the crows feet (the lines which protrude from the sides of our eyes. Botox is priced according to each of these 3 areas, with 1 area costing £99, 2 areas £169 and 3 areas costing £199 at Hylagen.

How does Botulinum Toxin work?

Botulinum Toxin blocks the signal from the nerve to the tiny facial muscles that are related to expression lines. Botox relaxes the muscles so that they do not contract or continue to crease the skin in that area. After treatment, the overlying skin starts to smooth out and wrinkles are softened while the untreated facial muscles contract in a normal fashion, allowing normal facial expression to be unaffected. Some people like a frozen look from their Botox treatment, but we at Hylagen do not and will not offer this as we find it is false and unnatural looking.

Are Botox treatments safe?

Botox injections have been used safely for over twenty years to treat many medical disorders associated with muscle problems such as eye twitching, muscle disorders and cerebral palsy. Like any drug, when administered by a trained professional with the correct experience, Botox is very safe for cosmetic use.

What does Botox treatment feel like?

Cosmetic Treatment with Botulinum Toxin is a simple and safe procedure. Using a tiny micro-needle almost smaller than an acupuncture needle, small doses of Botulinum Toxin are injected very precisely into certain muscles that effect the creasing of the skin. The needle is so fine and only a small amount is used, therefore the pain associated with the injection is minimal. Most patients compare the sensation to plucking an eyebrow. You can resume normal activities immediately afterwards, although we do advise a general taking it easy for the first evening so as to let the Botox settle where we want it to be.

Are there any side effects from having Botox?

Some patients experience a slight temporary bruising or redness at the injection site. This may be covered up with makeup. In some cases, the toxin can migrate and cause temporary weakness to nearby small muscles. In rare cases there can be drooping of an eyelid or asymmetry of facial expression. The risk of any side effect depends upon the muscles injected and the aftercare being followed by the client. Your doctor/nurse will discuss this with you in detail before the treatment. Because the effects of Botulinum Toxin are completely reversible, any side effects are temporary, lasting only a few days/weeks.

What results can I expect from Botox treatment?

If lines and wrinkles make you look older or more stressed than you are, cosmetic botox treatment can help smooth out the lines and wrinkles and give you a more youthful and refreshed appearance. However, this treatment will only slightly improve wrinkles due to aging and sun-damaged skin since they are unrelated to facial muscle contractions.

How safe is Botox in the long term?

Botox has been used in patients all over the world for various conditions for over 15 years with millions of treatments have been administered to date with no dangerous side effects or long term problems reported.
